Fairway Furniture is not just an independent store; it’s a cherished part of Plymouth’s history, tracing its roots all the way back to 1856. The business started with a family touch, founded by John Harding as ‘J Harding & Sons’. Initially, the business also operated as undertakers, general brokers, and timber dealers, a combination of trades not uncommon at the time.

The company has evolved over the years and through the generations, they’ve shown incredible resilience, especially after their then impressive Union Street premises were destroyed during the Plymouth Blitz in 1940. But they rebuilt and 1976 rebranded as Fairway Furniture, with the first store opening in Tavistock, followed by among others the current flagship store in Plymouth in 1986.

Now in its sixth generation as a family business, Fairway Furniture continues to be a well-known business in the community. Their impressive store on Billacombe Road is a huge, welcoming space – the largest furniture store in the Southwest!
