Access Creative College has achieved Ofsted’s ‘Expected Standard’, recognising that the College is meeting the national benchmark for education quality across the vast majority of its provision. The outcome reflects the quality of education delivered across Access Further Education’s creative, sport and apprenticeship programmes, while identifying a single area for continued improvement within adult learning programme achievement.

For Access Creative College, however, this recognition is about much more than an inspection outcome. It’s about what happens every day across its centres: students discovering their confidence, developing industry-ready skills and building futures in the creative industries, sport and beyond.

Each of Access Creative College’s seven centres are staffed by a team of real creative industry professionals who remain active workers in their fields, ensuring that students have full access to the most current and forward-facing industry practices, and the connections capable of kickstarting their creative careers.

Coinciding with the announcement, The College is launching its The Standard That Matters campaign, celebrating the people, opportunities and experiences that define life at Access. The campaign is built around a simple belief: the standard that matters isn’t just measured by an inspection. It’s measured by the opportunities students experience, the confidence they gain and the careers they go on to build.

The inspection recognises many of the qualities that have long been central to the College’s approach to education.

Inspectors highlighted Access Creative College’s inclusive culture, describing how teaching is delivered by professionals who continue to work in their relevant industry sectors, and leaders embrace individual differences and remove barriers to learning so that students can thrive. They also recognised the College’s clear focus on preparing students for employment within the creative industries and sport through industry-aligned programmes and placement opportunities.

Students at Access Creative College Plymouth, one of the college’s seven centres across the UK, benefit from learning in industry-standard environments, developing practical skills that prepare them for university, employment and freelance careers. The report also highlights the extensive opportunities available beyond the curriculum, including professional performances, employer engagement and industry experiences linked to events including the BRIT Awards and Reading & Leeds.

Speaking on the importance of Ofsted’s recognition, Head of Centre at Access Creative College, Plymouth; Matthew Mills, said: “We are very proud of the recent recognition by Ofsted of the sense of belonging and community learners in the Plymouth centre feel. We pride ourselves on being a community that welcomes and celebrates diversity, overcoming challenges and delivering positive education experiences that many young people find lacking in their secondary school experience. Our responsibility in developing them into young adults is one of the most important aspects of what we do, helping them find their place in an ever changing world that can often be very scary for those with learning differences and neurodivergence.”

Inspectors also praised the College’s investment in industry-standard facilities and resources, its employer-designed curriculum and the opportunities students have to work with cutting-edge technology, collaborate on professional projects and gain real life creative industry experience.

The outcome provides further reassurance for students joining Access Creative College this September and for parents seeking a supportive, inclusive environment where young people can develop the skills, confidence and experience needed for successful futures.

Applications remain open across a range of creative, games, media, and music programmes for September 2026 entry.
